Too early to say if infiltration has stopped: US

The United States on Tuesday it is too early to comment if there has been a cessation of cross-border infiltration of terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir.

"We have been watching the situation very carefully. We do have some indications that Pakistani actions go beyond words, but I would say it is too early for us to say that there has been a cessation of infiltration," state department spokesman Richard Boucher said.

"There were indications of instructions being issued. We have continued to watch this very closely and we see that there is more than just statements," Boucher said.

He said it was too early to say 'what kind of impact our advice might have had. In the end, people have to make their own decisions'.

Boucher welcomed the efforts of Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders in Almaty to foster discussions to reduce Indo-Pak tensions.

Secretary of State Colin Powell, he said, welcomed the effort Russia is making, along with other members of the international community to help ease Indo-Pak tensions, he said adding the US has been in close touch throughout this effort with the British, Europe and the Russians.

Powell has also spoken to the Chinese foreign minister about the situation, Boucher said.
