Expressing concern over the continuing tension in relations between India and Pakistan, Russia has called the two neighbouring countries to show restraint and make all possible peace efforts to overcome the current crisis in the region.
The call for restraint came in a statement issued by the Russian foreign ministry, after two days of talks between Russian and visiting Pakistani delegations in Moscow, on Wednesday.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov and Pakistani Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Ahmad led the delegations at the talks, during which situation in South Asia figured prominently.
Russia expressed concern over the continuing tension, which was triggered by a terrorist attack on Indian Parliament on December 13, the statement said.
"An appeal was made that Pakistan and India should exercise restraint and make all possible peaceful efforts to overcome the present dangerous crisis," the statement said.
The sides also reiterated the 'willingness of the two countries' to cooperate with a view to achieve a comprehensive solution to the Afghan crisis and take joint steps with other states for the social and economic reconstruction of Afghanistan.
