The Chennai police have busted a cricket-betting racket operating through telephone and e-mail and arrested nine persons.
The betting was on the International Cricket Council's Champions Trophy games in Colombo, where India and Sri Lanka are re-playing the final on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off that an 'ICC betting racket' was functioning in various localities of the city, the Chennai police pounced on the group.
Though only around Rs 20,000 were seized during the raids, police sources put the total money involved at about Rs 15 crore (approximately US $3.1 million).
