After recommending dissolution of the state assembly and breaking ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today launched a scathing attack on the right-wing party.

Mayawati accused the BJP of planning to harass her in the Taj heritage corridor controversy by "misusing" the Central Bureau of Investigation.

"The BJP can go to any extent," Mayawati told a convention of workers of her Bahujan Samaj Party in the state capital Lucknow after meeting Governor Vishnukant Shastri and recommending an early election. "There could even be an attempt to eliminate me."

Accusing the BJP of indulging in pressure politics, she said she had information that the party was trying to bargain for maximum seats in Uttar Pradesh in the next Lok Sabha election by using the Taj inquiry.

"Now, the BJP will not sit quietly and may take some action to harass me in the case," she said. "There was a concerted effort on the part of the BJP leadership to tarnish my image in the THC project as has been proved by the contention of Union Tourism Minister Jagmohan, who had clearly indicated that my government was solely responsible for it."

Mayawati said she had decided to snap ties with the BJP the day she had withdrawn her demand for Jagmohan's resignation, but had waited only to give final shape to some of the projects connected with dalit emancipation.
