Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party national vice-president Mayawati on Thursday resigned from the state assembly and said she would devote her time now to campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"A letter in this regard [resignation] has already been sent to Speaker Kesari Nath Tripathi," she told reporters in Lucknow.

Mayawati said she had definite information of some senior BJP leaders wanting to implicate her in the Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Taj heritage corridor case. "In case the BJP indulged in any such misadventure, the BSP will teach them a lesson...I will wage a war against the BJP, not only in Uttar Pradesh but across the length and breadth of the country," she said.
