Jaguar crash: Second pilot's body found

Search teams on Sunday recovered the body of Flight Lt Mayank Mayur from the wreckage of the Jaguar fighter aircraft, which had crashed near Sonmarg, 60km from Srinagar.

The teams continued salvage operations in the area to recover the flight data recorder of the second Jaguar to ascertain the cause of the crash, IAF sources said in Delhi.

The two warplanes had gone missing in bad weather on Friday and the wreckage and the body of Flight Lt Gagan Oberoi was found on Saturday in inhospitable mountainous terrain at an altitude of 4,000metres. The flight data recorder of one of the jets was also found on Saturday.

According to IAF sources, both the pilots were found in their flying seat, which indicated that they did not get time to eject.

The bodies will be taken to Ambala, the base of the squadron. While Oberoi's body is being flown on Sunday, Flight Lt Mayank Mayur's will be flown on Monday after a post-mortem.
