A day before the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a multi-tier security system has been set up in Jammu.

The venue of Vajpayee's public meeting, the Parade Ground, has been sealed to prevent any untoward incident, senior official sources said on Tuesday.

Bomb disposal squads have been deployed, which are conducting security drills along with the police and paramilitary forces. Traffic has been diverted in the old city area and multi-ringed security blanket thrown up in the town. All police stations in the city have been put on high alert, the sources said.

A meeting of the senior police officials was convened by Jammu and Kashmir's Director General of Police Gopal Sharma to discuss the special security arrangements.

The entry and exit points into the city have been barricaded and checking is being conducted on all vehicles entering the city, the sources added.

Security force personnel, along with sharp shooters will be stationed at the rooftops of all the buildings around the Parade Ground to keep a watch on the activities on Wednesday, the sources said.
