Security has been tightened and prohibitory orders promulgated in the twin cities of Ayodhya and Faizabad ahead of the anniversary on December 6 of the demolition of the Babri masjid.

Six companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary and Rapid Action Force, three additional superintendents of police, seven deputy SPs, 12 police inspectors and about two dozen sub-inspectors and civil police have been deployed, Superintendent of Police (Ayodhya City) S S Baghel told PTI on Saturday.

Security at all sensitive places, including the makeshift Ram Lalla structure on the acquired land and important temples, like the Hanumangarhi temple, Kanak Bhawan and Nageshwarnath Shiva, has also been stepped up, he said.

The SP said checking and frisking is being carried out at all entry points to Ayodhya, including the ones at Bandha Tiraha, Naya Ghat on the national highway bypass and Terhi bazaar crossing on Ayodhya-Faizabad road.

Officers have also been posted at the venues of special programmes planned by different organisations, he said.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Dharma Yatra Maha Sangh will organise a Hindu sammelan in Karsewakpuram in Ayodhya. Local mahants, including Ramjanmabhumi Nyas president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, are expected to participate in it.
