A Bangalore court on Monday remanded Dr Rehan Baig, arrested in connection with the fake stamp paper racket, to judicial custody till January 19 even as Stamp Investigation Team (STAMPIT) seized a computer hard disc he used.

Rehan Baig is the brother of Roshan Baig who quit as minister for Small Scale Industries in Karnataka over alleged links with the scam. He had been in police custody since December 22, 2003.

IX Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Chandrashekhar B Hippargi granted judicial custody following an application by STAMPIT.

Rehan Baig has refused to undergo the narco-analysis test, sought by STAMPIT to uncover what it refers to as 'hidden details'.

The Forensic Science Laboratory in Bangalore has given January 7 as the date for the test, the prosecution informed the court but a STAMPIT source revealed that the test cannot be conducted without Baig's consent.

Rehan Baig, who has filed a requisition before the court refusing to undergo the test, told reporters that the doctors, slated to subject him to the test, 'are inexperienced' and 'not qualified'.

He had earlier admitted to being involved in a kerosene business years ago with Abdul Karim Telgi but insisted he had no knowledge about the latter's fake stamp paper racket.

However, STAMPIT has recovered a computer hard disc used by Baig, which is believed to contain details and data about his business.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister S M Krishna on Monday forwarded Roshan Baig's resignation letter to Governor T N Chaturvedi. Opposition parties, particularly BJP, targeted the minister alleging his involvement in the scam.
