The Delhi high court on Friday allowed the 93-year-old mother and two brothers of Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram to see him during visiting hours at Batra Hospital, which was asked to file his entire treatment record, specifically mentioning the degree of toxins in his blood.

The order came from Justice O P Dwivedi on a petition filed by Bishan Kaur and brothers Harbans Singh and Dalbara Singh.

The three alleged that he had been "kept as a virtual prisoner" at Batra Hospital for over eight months.

The court posted the matter to June 23 without passing any order on the petitioners' plea to hand over the patient to them and order an inquiry by an independent panel of doctors into his treatment.

The petitioners' counsel, Vikas Sharma, said the three would go to meet him in the evening as per the court's order.

They alleged that during the last eight months they came to New Delhi 10 times but were not allowed free access to Kanshi Ram, whose brother-in-law was attending on him.

Earlier, Batra Hospital said the petitioners never approached its medical superintendent and the administrator for access to the ailing leader.

The hospital's counsel, Ashok Chhabra, said the petitioners came to the court without meeting the hospital authorities and asserted that there was no bar on meeting the patient during visiting hours.

Delhi police counsel Mukta Gupta filed a status report with the court, according to which Kanshi Ram's brother-in-law Hukum Singh was with him in the hospital.

In their petition filed late last month, the BSP leader's relatives also claimed to have learnt that "Kanshi Ram made an attempt to leave the hospital but was put under sedatives. The effort is to keep him away from his family circlesÂ…"

Recalling their last visit to the BSP leader on April 24, they said Kanshi Ram needed "emotional support", which only his mother could provide.

On May 31, Kanshi Ram's brothers had demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into his hospitalisation, alleging it was a conspiracy by party president Mayawati, who feared that she would be removed from the post.

The brothers, who last met Kanshi Ram on April 24, claimed that he was fully fit and not paralysed.
