Former Jammu beauty queen Anara Gupta on Saturday said she will file defamation cases against the police and a section of the media for implicating her in the much-publicised pornographic VCDs scandal.

"The amount to be claimed for defamation would be decided later," Anara's lawyer Rahul Pant said.

The state police on Friday asked the Jammu and Kashmir high court to permit them to close the case against Anara  after the forensic laboratory reports from Hyderabad stated that the woman in the VCDs was not Anara.

Pant said they will await a formal closure of the case before filing the defamation cases.

"At present all the cases, including illegal confinement and permission to approach the National Human Rights Commission, are sub-judice," he added.

Pant said the court has also demanded State Director General of Police Gopal Sharma to verify the status of Anara's confinement from October 24 to November 4, 2004.

Pant said that they would also sue TV news channels after collecting enough details of defamatory content broadcast.
