With the overall law and order situation improving, curfew was relaxed in more localities of Mau on Tuesday, even as security personnel maintained a strict vigil in the sensitive areas.

Curfew was relaxed for two hours each in Khedupura, Bal Niketan, VT, Brahmsthan and Ghazipur crossing in phases on Tuesday, official sources here said.

The decision to relax curfew was taken after senior officials reviewed the situation in the town, which remained incident-free on Monday, the sources said. Curfew was relaxed for the first time in ten days in some areas on Monday.

Markets opened partially and people came out of their houses to buy essentials, the sources said.

There was, however, no let-up in force deployment in the sensitive areas and security personnel, including those of BSF, RAF, PAC and police, continuing to maintain vigil, they said.

In the areas where curfew was still in force, essential commodities were distributed by the district authorities.
