JeM commander arrested in Jammu

Police and Central security forces have arrested five persons, including a self-styled commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad, in Jammu, Doda and Poonch areas of Jammu and Kashmir during last 24 hours, official sources said in Jammu on Friday.

Police arrested three JeM activists from Transport Nagar of Jammu city on Thursday and one of them has been identified as Mohammad Saleem Wani, code-named Shamsher of Kishtwar area of Doda district, a self-styled commander of the group.

Wani, who is involved in several militancy-related cases in Doda district, was taken into custody from Transport Nagar where he had gone to meet his associates to chalk out a plan for carrying out subversive activities in the winter capital. The identity of two other JeM ultras has not been revealed for security reasons, the sources said and added one AK rifle along with its 10 magazines, two grenades and two mobile phones have also been seized from the ultras.

The interrogation of Saleem revealed that he had visited Jammu in September along with another of his Pakistani associates and they had planned to carry out some subversive activities in Jammu and the surrounding area, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu Mukesh Singh said. He also said that Wani was involved in grenade lobbing incident at Jewel Chowk in the city recently.
