J&K: 4 militants, cop killed in encounters

Four militants and a special police officer were killed and a woman shot at while security forces busted two hideouts and recovered huge amount of arms and ammunition in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

A militant of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit Dilshad, codenamed Tallah, was killed in a gun battle with security forces at Dharra under police station Marwah in Doda.

An AK rifle and a magazine were recovered from the slain militant, a police spokesman said.

He said a Harkat-ul-Mujahideen militant Riyaz Ahmad was shot dead by security forces in an encounter at Nagni in Gandoh sector of Doda on Friday night. A pistol, a magazine, two rounds of ammunition, a grenade and a pouch were recovered from him.

In a separate incident, an unidentified militant was killed in a firefight, which broke out at Salwah under police station Gursia in Poonch on Friday evening, the spokesman said.

An SPO and a militant were killed in a gun battle at village Khair under police station Banihal in doda district. One AK rifle, three magazines, 111 rounds of ammunition and two grenades were recovered from him.

Militants also shot at and seriously injured 28-year-old Tahira in her house at Sumblar-Bandipora in Baramulla district on Friday night, the spokesman said.

He said the police busted a militant hideout at Sanai in Surankote sector of Poonch and recovered a pistol, one magazine, 756 rounds of ammunition and four wireless sets.

In another incident, as many as 529 self loading rifle rounds of ammunition, 132 rounds of 9 m m pistol ammunition, one RPG shell and six hand grenades were recovered at Palli in Kathua sector in Jammu, the spokesman said.
