The national council of the rebel Janata Dal-Secular, called by the faction opposed to H D Deve Gowda, on Saturday endorsed the party's executive decision to suspend the former prime minister from the primary membership of the party.

Through a resolution, the council also ratified Friday's decison of the executive to dissolve the Karnataka unit of the party and suspend all the JD-S legislators, who were supporting the Kumaraswamy government in Karnataka.

The council is also expected to approve the executive's recommendation to make socialist veteran Surendra Mohan as the party's national president in place of Gowda.
