Encounter specialist Daya Nayak, against whom a Mumbai sessions court had issued a non-bailable warrant in a disproportionate assets case, surrendered before the court on Monday afternoon.

The court had given him time till noon to surrender.

The sessions court had on February 18 issued a non-bailable warrant against Nayak, suspended police inspector.

After the sessions court and the Bombay high court rejected his anticipatory bail plea, Nayak had moved the Supreme Court.

However, the apex court declined to interfere with the High Court decision and directed him to surrender.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau had filed an application for the non-bailable warrant.

Additional public prosecutor R V Kini had said Nayak was not found at his residence and had been evading arrest since the Supreme Court decision on February 17.

The ACB has stated that Nayak had since 2002 amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
