Police Friday night detained eight persons, including two whose faces resemble the sketches of suspects behind the Varansi blasts, from a market in Hardoi, a top police official said.

The faces of two detainees identified as Sadiq and Anfar exactly resemble the sketches released by the investigating agencies in Varanasi Thursday, District Police Chief Kashinath Singh said.

Singh told PTI that all the eight youths have been staying at a local dharmshala (resthouse) since Thursday and were detained at around 7 pm at Kutchery market while selling sunglasses in Hardoi, about 100 km from Lucknow.

During interrogation, the detainees said they belonged to Muzaffarpur in Bihar and had checked in at the Dharmshala Thursday morning, he said.

The police chief said if the sketches of the suspects were correct, then Sadiq and Anfar appeared to be the persons wanted by the police. The six others detained had been staying with the two.

Senior officials of Special Task Force probing the blasts and other agencies have been informed and the youths were being interrogated.
