He is also scheduled to hold a separate meeting with Panchayat leaders and discuss with them ways to strengthen the Panchayati Raj institutions. He will visit some villages later in the day.

Rahul launched his three-day mass contact programme in Amethi on Wednesday, mingling with villagers and assuring all help to them in speedy development of their areas. He also toured a number of villages concentrating mainly on dwellings of dalits and backward classes.

In his characteristic style, Rahul walked into the dusty swathe of his constituency reminding villagers of the manner in which his father Rajiv Gandhi and grandmother Indira Gandhi had interacted with them. Chatting with residents of Barsanda village on Wednesday, he said he was concerned about lack of development in the area and asked them to adopt new techniques for better results, in particular in the field of agriculture.
