Militants on Sunday night lobbed a grenade at an army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, killing one jawan and injuring four others, defence sources have said.

The army vehicle, which was on patrolling duty, was passing Chajroo on the Mahore-Gool road.

Troops from the nearby camp rushed to the spot and moved the injured to hospital.

In another incident in Baramulla, an army officer was killed and a militant was arrested during a combing operation.

Acting on specific information, troops of the 57 Rashtriya Rifles, assisted by the local police, launched an operation at Chak Rishipura, 55 kms from Srinagar.

The troops noticed the movement of militants and challenged them.

The two sides exchanged fire, and an ultra was injured.

He was identified as Ilyas of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and taken to Srinagar under police custody.

The troops then got information about Ilyas's associates.

While they were laying a cordon around the area, the militants fired from a nearby house, injuring a Captain.

The troops could not evacuate him owing to heavy rain and the he succumbed to his injuries.
