Over 600 para-military force companies reach UP

As many as 632 companies of central para-military forces had reached Uttar Pradesh for being deployed at various places in the districts going to polls in the first phase of polling on April 7.

State Principal Home Secretary K Chandramauli told reporters in Lucknow on Tuesday that the process of arrival of the central para-military forces was continuing.

Chandramauli said so far over 17 lakh people had been bounded by the state. Over eight lakh licensed arms had so far been deposited, he said adding that the police had also seized over 6,000 illicit arms, over 9,000 cartridges and about 4,000 kg of explosives from different parts of the state.

Raids were also conducted at over 8,000 illicit arms manufacturing factories in the state so far, he said.

Meanwhile, State Home secretary R M Srivastav said the situation in the curfew-bound areas in the state capital was normal.

A magisterial inquiry had already been ordered and action would be taken against those found guilty after the report was submitted, he said.
