With Congress pinning its hopes on him in Uttar Pradesh elections, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said he was not into politics of position and indicated that he would work on building the party by encouraging the youth to join it.

"I am not into politics of position. I am here to allow youngsters to come forward and work for change," Rahul told reporters when asked about he being the future prime ministerial candidate of the party.

Admitting there were problems that plagued his party, Rahul said, some organisational troubles in Uttar Pradesh were preventing people from joining the party.

"The problem in Uttar Pradesh Congress is more organisational and I believe that at a certain point we stop people coming to (join) the party," he said.

Asked about Congress' failure to cobble up a pre-poll coalition in Uttar Pradesh, he said, "It was due to differences over number of seats."

The Amethi MP said the state had been divided over caste and religion during the past 15 years of non-Congress rule, and added, there was a need for unification and "the Congress party can do it best."
