India and China have reaffirmed that border issues between the two countries should be resolved through dialogue.
Addressing media persons after successful completion of the first-ever joint military exercise between the two neighbours in Kunming province on Tuesday, Lt General Susheel Gupta, deputy chief of the Indian Army staff, and Lt General M A Xiao Tian, deputy chief of staff, Peoples Liberation Army, said such problems should be resolved through discussions.
"Military to military cooperation would lead to good relations and other issues are already being discussed at an appropriate level," said Gen Gupta, adding, "whatever we have achieved would go a long way and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's upcoming visit to China would cement the relations further."
Echoing the same sentiments, General Tian said China believes that issues must be resolved politically and the two countries must move forward step by step to develop mutual understanding and trust.
"This would be mutually beneficial," he added.
Meanwhile, China also made it clear that the joint training exercise was not aimed against any third country and it would never seek any military alliance with any country.
Later, a cultural evening was organised where soldiers of both armies presented various entertaining items, including patriotic songs from the Indian contingent and colourful dances by Chinese girls.
