Even as peace prevailed in the trouble-hit town of Gorakhpur, leading to the relaxation of curfew for seven hours since Monday morning, more paramilitary forces were deployed to instil confidence among the citizens.

Another five companies of paramilitary forces, which were relieved from the Kumbh Mela, were deployed in the town to increase security as curfew was relaxed for seven hours since 10 am on Monday.

Senior superintendent of police S K Bhagat, however, said there were adequate forces in the district - "We could use additional forces for rural areas as well as to put pressure on anti-social elements."

As a precautionary measure, he said, the borders with adjoining districts have been sealed and a strict vigil is being maintained.

Nearly 600 hundred people have been arrested under various offences -- 77 of them under serious offences like rioting and breach of peace.

As many as 12 people have been booked under National Security Act.

The traders's associations have decided to open the market that was closed for the last week as a part of Bharatiya Janata Party's indefinite bandh, but they would continue their stir by tying black band around their arms, office bearers of Gorakhpur Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal said.

The wholesale market of medicine at Bhalotia is also open on Monday.

However, the road and rail communication is still disrupted as no buses of state roadways are plying due to security reasons, the regional manager, UP roadways Ramjit Verma told PTI.

The express trains have been allowed to stop at every station except halt stations, the General Manager North Eastern Railway Sukhbir Singh told PTI.

Adequate security has been provided on all express trains passing through Gorakhpur-Mau and Gorakhpur-Gonda sections. As many as 70 passenger trains have already been cancelled, he said.

No major incident has been reported from adjoining districts, while a few incidents of clash with police in Sahjanwa and other rural areas of the district occurred, the ADM (City) P K Agrawal said.
