A Gorakhpur court on Wednesday granted bail to Bharatiya Janata Party MP Yogi Adiyanath, who was arrested in the aftermath of communal violence in Gorakhpur.

The situation in the town has also improved and curfew has been partially relaxed.

District Judge Amar Sinha ordered Adityanath's release on two bail bonds of Rs 20,000 each and a personal bond of an equal amount.

The court held that the first information in the case was lodged against him about ten hours late and the police have given no reason for the delay.

Curfew was relaxed in Kotwali, Rajghat, Tiwaripur and Gorakhnath till 6 pm as road and rail services were partially resumed.

No untoward incident has been reported. Train services on the metre gauge sections of Gorakhpur-Gonda, Thawe-Captainganj, Gonda-Bareilly and Gonda-Mailani of the North Eastern railways resumed, a railway spokesman said.

Services were suspended on January 31 after railway properties were damaged during the protests against Adityanath's detention.

People started gathering near the district jail to meet the MP after the court order to release him reached the prison. The BJP MP was arrested on January 28 while going towards troubled areas of the city. He was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and sent to jail, along with 150 of his supporters.
