The Orissa DGP (Homeguards) also reiterated his demand for shifting his son to a jail in his home state of Orissa to help him "reintegrate" with the society by providing medical and family care.
Mohanty, facing a police case for allegedly hiding his son, asked Bitty to surrender "even if he is apprehending that he will be further tortured and even if he is lodged in Jaipur Central Jail."
"It's in his interest. He has to surrender as that is the only way... His life is at stake," he told CNN-IBN channel. Mohanty said he has been trying to contact his son through his friends, but to no avail.
On filing of FIRs by the Rajasthan police against him and Bitty, awarded seven-year imprisonment for raping a German tourist in Alwar last year, he said the Orissa police was offering all cooperation to Rajasthan in the case.
"I have made an appeal to them to reconsider their stand because we are rendering all cooperation to them. The Orissa police have sent teams even up to Delhi and to neighbouring states," he added.
Claiming that he does not know where his son is, Mohanty said, "If I had an answer to that question, I would not be going through this kind of trauma and out family would not be suffering to such an extent."
Mohanty said Bitty should be shifted to a jail in Orissa to facilitate his return to the mainstream of the society.
"There will be some family link, psychiatric treatment and the service of a doctor."
Otherwise, there is no difference whether he is kept in Central jail, Jaipur or on Circle Jail, Chaudah, he added.
A fast-track court convicted the 24-year-old ex-MBA student for raping the German research scholar.
The police officer also reiterated that he had not executed the security bond for releasing Bitty on parole. "I had not gone to Jaipur on November 20."
"We have made repeated correspondence for granting the parole on the ground of the illness of Bitty's mother and his bedridden grandmother, who is 82, as they cannot go to Jaipur to meet him," he added.
