The parents of a 15-year-old boy who allegedly performed a caesarean section at their family-run maternity hospital near Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu recently, have been taken into custody, the police said.

Dr Murugesan and his wife Dr Gandhimathy were taken into custody Monday morning and detained at the Valanadu police station by Manapparai police as per District Collector Ashish Vachhani's orders, the sources said.

The RDO probe ordered into the Caesarean section, allegedly performed by the boy Dhileepan Raj, a standard X student, was over and the report submitted to the collector, official sources said.

On Sunday, the collector had said appropriate action would be taken after studying the report and consultations with both medical and legal experts and informal interactions with the investigation team. However, details of the report would not be disclosed to the media or the public and only the decision taken will be made known, he had said.

The incident came to light at last month's meeting of Manapparai unit of the Indian Medical Association, where Murugesan, a surgeon and Gandhimathy, a gynaecologist, are said to have screened the video of their son performing the surgery.

Dr Murugesan is now claiming that he performed the surgery while his son watched.

Coming down heavily on Dr Murugesan, the Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Medical Association, which met in Tiruchirapalli on Sunday, adopted a resolution seeking disciplinary action against him.
