An anonymous letter by a person claiming to be part of terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Tayiba has threatened to launch terror attacks at the disputed site in Ayodhya, as well as on Banaras Hindu University and Sankat Mochan temple on Holi.

Consequently, authorities have sounded a red alert in the district.

The letter, received by the senior superintendent of police's office on Thursday night, threatened to carry out the attacks also on cantonment railway station and the bus stand from March 4 onwards. This was disclosed by SSP Sujit Pandey's public relations officer K D Tripathi.

The Sankat Mochan temple and the cantonment railway station had been targetted by terrorists last year.

The letter, which is in Hindi, said attacks would be carried out also at the disputed structure at Ayodhya and in other parts of the country, the police official said, adding the other locations of the threatened strikes have not been mentioned.
