Rahul has a post-poll strategy for UP

Congress star campaigner Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said he has some strategy for the party in the post-poll situation in Uttar Pradesh but refused to disclose that for now.

"I have an opinion in this regard but I will not share it now. Any decision about a post-poll alliance will be taken by senior leaders of the party. I will not go into that," Rahul told media persons in Gorakhpur while taking a break from the gruelling roadshow.

The 37-year-old Congress lawmaker from Amethi said his task was to make the party stand on its own in the state.

"It is the beginning of a building process. It is a long journey. It is a long term job," he said, adding, "The Congress has to be strengthened in the state. We want a government, which is responsible and responsive and ready to deliver."
 
He said that he was 'not a saviour of UP but I do have some expectations from the youth of the state.'

On the exit poll predictions, Rahul said, "You know better. You have your predictions. I have nothing to say."

Rahul said he saw UP in a 'particular perspective.'    

Asked about his assessment on his roadshows in the run up to the polls, Rahul said it has brought a 'new enthusiasm among party workers.'

The Congress MP said earlier there was a lack of morale among party workers.

"The thinking was there that we cannot win. This is changing now," Rahul said.

He also said that he was not concerned about the number of seats his party wins in the ongoing assembly polls.

Rahul said that the organisational structure of the party was still in tact.

On factionalism in the party, he said that there was groupism but to say that it affected selection of candidates would be an exaggeration.

Stressing the importance of UP, Rahul said that it was the biggest state in the country and the Congress needs to be strengthened in the state.

Asked about his future plans and vision about the state, Rahul said that he had not yet interacted enough with the people in the state to make out his plans.

"For formulating a plan or a vision you need to interact with the people more," he added.
