In a candid admission, the Indo Tibetan Police Force on Tuesday said Chinese soldiers guarding the border are better equipped than its own men and that there have been more than 140 border violations by the troops of the communist nation.
The ITBP top brass has already informed the government about the developments and proposals for enhancing the force's equipment and supporting infrastructure are under 'active' consideration.
"The Chinese side is better equipped. They have better communication facilities and they have the advantage of the terrain. The geography on our side is not that favourable," ITBP Director General V K Joshi told media persons.
Asked about incursions from the Chinese side, Joshi said there were 141 such incidents in the past one year, with most of them taking place in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.
"The boundaries are not demarcated and here exists the problem. What we think is right may be wrong for the Chinese. The government is informed and the issue is being handled at the diplomatic level," he said.
However, he said, the situation on the Indo-Chinese border has not reached a 'flashpoint' and there was 'no stand off' between the two sides.
Joshi said the ITBP has informed the government about the requirements of the force and the Union Home Ministry was considering a number of proposals, including modernizing communication facilities.
The government has already allotted a Rs 1,400 crore project to build 27 roads to increase accessibility on the borders besides sanctioning the setting up of seven more battalions in the next financial year, he said.
