The Aligarh Muslim University on Tuesday suspended 17 students for their alleged involvement in violent protests which rocked the campus following murder of a student on September 16.

Among those who were suspended for the ransacking of the Vice-Chancellor's office include the recently dissolved students union secretary Sulaiman Mohd Khan.

Vice-Chancellor P K Abdul Azis also ordered that the campus be "out of bounds" for the suspended students pending enquiry by the university disciplinary committee.

Earlier, the university authorities had lodged complaint with the police against 25 people, including students and others.
