In a boost to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray who had targeted north Indians, the Mumbai police has dismissed as "false and malicious" a complaint of criminal intimidation filed against him by Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
After investigations into the complaint filed on February 3, the police have concluded that there was not much substance in Amar Singh's claim, Deputy Commissioner of Police Brijesh Singh told PTI in Mumbai on Thursday night.
Amar Singh, SP general secretary, had filed a complaint with the Azad Maidan Police Station after MNS activists disrupted a press conference by him in the area on February 2.
In his complaint, Amar Singh had alleged that sloganeering activists had threatened him by using Raj Thackeray's name while being whisked away by security personnel from the venue.
Amar Singh had also claimed that Raj Thackeray had been making intimidatory statements in the days leading to the press conference, due to which the police also went through press clippings and other evidence.
The police on March 19 had filed a "B-summary" report stating that the complaint of Amar Singh was "false and malicious".
The report was accepted by the court on March 25.
Raj Thackeray had led a violent anti-borth Indian stir. The complaint was filed immediately after clashes between MNS and SP workers in Dadar before the commencement of a United National Progressive Alliance rally addressed by SP chief Mulayam Singh and others.
