Chief ministerial candidate of the Janata Dal-Secular H D Kumaraswamy said on Wednesday that he not perturbed by the candidature of Mamta Nichani against him in the Ramnagar constituency.

He told reporters at his guest house at Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, that he was aware that a woman was being pitched against him for astrological reasons, but also added that it made no difference to him.

The Congress have pitched Mamta, daughter of former chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde against Kumaraswamy in Ramnagar.

Kumaraswamy said that there is no question of him changing his constituency and he would fight from Ramnagar itself.

He also added that the people of his constituency are aware of the work done by him. I have done enough work in the constituency and I will win the elections from Ramnagar, he also said.

Sources in the Congress told rediff.com that the idea to pitch a woman candidate against Kumaraswamy was largely due to astrological reasons. They have pitched a lady by the name Anupama from the Holenarasipur constituency in Hassan which is a strong hold of Kumaraswamy's brother H D Revanna.

The talk in political circles is that women are unlucky for the Gowdas and if a woman is pitched against the family they lose the elections.

This talk started after Gowda lost the elections to Congress candidate Tejaswini Sriramesh in Kanakapur constituency in the 2004 elections.

It was following this defeat that an astrologer had told the family that a woman candidate will be unlucky for them.

However, the younger generation of the Gowda clan rubbishes this.

Revanna says that he does not believe in astrology and would fight the polls from his constituency even if there was a woman candidate pitched against him.

He says that he has worked very hard in his constituency and this should fetch him the votes.
