Pakistan on Tuesday sought resolution of the Kashmir problem in accordance with the "aspirations" of the Kashmiri people, insisting that there was "complete political consensus" in the country on the issue

There was "complete political consensus in Pakistan in support of the Kashmir cause," Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said during a meeting with a visiting Hurriyat team led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Qureshi "reaffirmed to the delegation Pakistan's belief that the resolution of the Kashmir issue must be in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and that Kashmiris must be associated with the dialogue process," an official statement said.

Qureshi also apprised the Hurriyat team of his meeting with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee last month.

The Mirwaiz said Pakistan government's invitation to the Hurriyat leadership to visit the country signifies the importance it attaches to the wishes of the Kashmiri people in "search for a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue".

This has sent "positive signals" to the Kashmiri people, Farooq said. The Hurriyat team also briefed Qureshi on the
situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Hurriyat delegation is in Pakistan at the invitation of the foreign minister to hold consultations with the country's leadership ahead of Qureshi's visit to India beginning June 27.
