Karnataka will have to wait longer before they get to know the exact date for the elections.

An Election Commission team in Bengaluru has said they would take a decision only when they return to New Delhi.

Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami on Tuesday said that he held discussions with district deputy commissioners who briefed the panel about the delimitation process. '

He also met leaders of three major parties -- the Congress, the BJP and the Janata Dal (S).

The CEC said barring one party the other two were in favour of early elections.

Though he refused to mention the party which opposed early polls, sources said that the Congress wanted the polls postponed.

The CEC, accompanied by other commissioners Naveen Chawla and  Qureshi, said the normal implementation of the new delimitation report would take six  months. However in extra-ordinary circumstances, it could be done sooner.

He, however, added that the new electoral roll as per the new report would be complete by March 25. Then, the constituencies would be redrawn.
