Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union foreign minister Jaswant Singh on Wednesday denied that he had distributed cash during an election meeting at Gagaria village in Rajasthan's Barmer district.

He said helping the needy was his duty and his family has been helping the poor, but claimed that neither he nor any other BJP leader had violated the model code of conduct by distributing currency notes.

Singh and BJP Member of Parliament from Tonk Lok Sabha seat Kailash Meghwal were on Tuesday accused of handing Rs 10,000 to a woman and distributing food packets among people in violation of the model code of conduct at Gagaria where he had gone to campaign for his son Manvendra Singh.

"Prima facie Rs 10,000 was given to a woman on the dias by the two leaders who also distributed 6000 food packets among the people at the meeting," State's Chief Election Officer Vinod Zutshi said on Tuesday after receiving a report from Barmer Collector Ravi Jain on the episode.

The complaint against the two leaders has been forwarded to the Election Commission, Zutshi added.
