After campaigning for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, actor Salman Khan on Thursday urged the people of Pathankot to vote for actor Vinod Khanna, who is the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from Gurdaspur.

Ecstatic fans spilled into the streets, as Khan started his roadshow from the airport accompanied by Khanna, in an open jeep.

Asked how he was campaigning for the BJP when he had recently been canvassing for its arch-rival Congress, Khan said he was "campaigning for the candidates".

"I have come to campaign for Vinod Khanna because he has been so dear to me and because he believes in delivering the goods," he told reporters.

"Vinod Khanna has built five bridges, one civil airport and brought unseen development to Gurdaspur and certainly deserves another stint as a Member of Parliament in Gurdaspur," said Khan.

Khanna has been elected thrice to Lok Sabha from the seat. Khan said Vinod Khanna was like an 'elder brother' to him and he held him in high esteem for "his integrity and dedication to the human cause in the film industry".

While Salman has added a dash of colour to Khanna's campaign, party workers are expecting actors Hema Malini, Dharmedra and Khanna's two sons to also canvass for him.
