Uddhav gets EC notice for remarks against PM

April 09, 2009 18:32 IST

Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray has been slapped with a notice by the Election Commission for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a rally.

Thackeray, who was scheduled to respond to the EC notice on Thursday, has sought extension of time, Deputy Election Commissioner J P Prakash told reporters.

A complaint has already been registered by the Mumbai police against the Shiv Sena leader.

The complaint was filed as Uddhav's speech allegedly violated the Model Code of Conduct, as the leader allegedly made derogatory statements against the prime minister, a police official had said.
