As communal tension simmers in riot-torn Kandhamal in Orissa, the district administration has registered a case against Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from the area for allegedly making inflammatory remarks against the Church and Christians on April 5 in Raikia village.
A First Information Report has been filed against Ashok Sahu under Section 153 and Section 125(a) of the Representation of People Act, District Magistrate Krishan Kumar told rediff.com on Saturday.
Explaining the delay in filing the FIR against Sahu, Kumar said it was a procedural matter and that they had to go through CDs of the speech before taking appropriate action.
The District Magistrate did not comment on the action that can be taken against Sahu. However, Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar told rediff.com that the sections under which Sahu had been booked are non-bailable and that appropriate action will be taken as per the law.
