Not in talks with BJP, clarifies Jayalalithaa

April 13, 2009 16:51 IST

AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa today termed baseless the reports that her party was being approached through back channels by the BJP for a post-poll alliance.

"I wish to clarify that such reports are baseless and the AIADMK is not conducting talks with any political party for a post-poll alliance," she said in a statement.

BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani had yesterday said back channels were working to bring Jayalalitha into the NDA fold.

In an interview to CNN-IBN, Advani had said "Yes with Jayalalitha..." when asked whether back channels with BSP chief Mayawati or the AIADMK supremo were open.

However, clarifying his remarks, Advani told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram today that it was up to the AIADMK to decide on a post-poll alliance. "It is for them to decide. I simply mentioned about it," he said.

Jayalalithaa also asserted that AIADMK had aligned with the MDMK, PMK and the two Left parties only. "The AIADMK has entered into an alliance with the CPI, CPI (M), PMK and the MDMK for the coming General Elections," she added.
