Bihar's ruling Janata Dal-United state president Rajeev Ranjan alias Lalan Singh has filed a criminal defamation case against former chief minister and opposition leader Rabri Devi in a Patna civil court on Monday for her allegedly abusive remarks at an election meeting against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Lalan Singh.
Lalan Singh told rediff.com in a telephonic converastion that he has filed a criminal case against Rabri Devi for her abusive remarks."As case could not be filed on Friday and Saturday due to government holidays,I filed the case against Rabri Devi on Monday" Singh said. Singh said that he filed case under three sections of the IPC.
Earlier, the JD-U lodged a complaint with the Election Commission and demandfed stern action against Rabri Devi for her abusive remarks.In its complaint against Rabri Devi, the JD-U demanded that the poll panel should disallow the former chief minister to campaign. The JD-U said her insulting remarks against Nitish Kumar and Lallan Singh were in violation of the code of conduct.
Railways Minister Lalu Prasad's wife Rabri Devi earlier this month allegedle used unparliamentary language against the chief minister and the JD-U president reportedly at an election campaign meeting for Saran Lok Sabha seat. Her husband is the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate in the seat.
JD-U spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari, had earlier demanded that the EC cancel her membership of the legislature and that she should not be allowed to contest the next assembly elections for her abusive remarks. Tiwari was leading a party delegation to submit a memorandum to the poll panel in Patna.
Tiwari said never before has a political leader used such foul language in a public meeting. "The JD-U is serious about it and will expose her and the RJD during polls" he said.
