Railway minister Lalu Prasad on Monday escaped unhurt when the dais erected for his election meeting in his Lok Sabha constituency collapsed.
The dais slowly collapsed when the RJD supremo was seated and accompanied by other leaders at Teknawas Bazar, 10 km from here, official sources said.
Around 50 local RJD leaders and workers came down with the collapsing dais, even as the party chief remained calm and was unhurt, the sources said.
Prasad had to curtail his speech as the sound system was also damaged.
Commenting on the dais collapse, Prasad said, "The earth here is great that it easily bore my weight. It will do many more things for me."
Prasad is seeking a fourth term from Saran, hitherto known as Chapra, where he is locked in almost a straight contest with former Union minister and BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
