UP govt creating hurdles in development work in Amethi, says Priyanka

April 13, 2009 15:36 IST

Campaigning for her brother Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, Priyanka Gandhi on Monday accused the Mayawati government of creating impediments in the developmental works in his constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

"A non-Congress government in the state (Uttar Pradesh) or at the Centre has always tried to create hurdles in executing development works. For instance, the state government did its best to halt the proposed Rail Coach Factory project in Rai Bareli," she said while addressing a poll rally at Bhawanigarh block in Amethi where elections are due on April 23.

"Hence when you go to cast your franchise do it with all responsibilities and vote for the party which has worked for your development," Priyanka said.

In an effort to strike an emotional chord with the public, Priyanka said "When I seek support from you for my brother, I serve my father and mother who have contested from the constituency in the past. You are our family".

Stating that the Gandhi family has ensured development for Amethi, she enlisted several welfare activities carried out in the past five years by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance at the Centre and Rahul Gandhi as an MP of the constituency.

She said her brother has undertaken various projects related to health, education for all and empowerment of women.
