A case has been registered against Congress general secretary for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati during an election rally in Hardoi, police said on Wednesday. The FIR was lodged against Congress leader Digvijay Singh at Mallwan police station on Tuesday night for violating model code of conduct by making objectionable remarks during an election speech on April 20, they said.

Singh, during a meeting in support of Congress nominee from Misrikh seat on April 20 had allegedly said that if any party worker was harassed by the state government then Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati should remember that a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry is being conducted against her.

He had also said that the Congress had the government at the Centre and that the CBI was also in Delhi. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bilgram Anand Kumar said that the remarks made by the Congress leader amounted to violation of model code of conduct.
