EC bans INLD's "objectionable" CD on Congress

April 24, 2009 16:35 IST
The Election Commission has restrained Indian National Lok Dal from showing "objectionable" CD in its public rallies, publicity vans and on electronic media. The EC has taken this decision after receiving a complaint from Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee., an official spokesman said in Chandigarh on Friday.

In his complaint the HPCC press secretary, Surender Singh Hooda had pleaded that the said CD contains material which is not only defamatory of Congress, but also has potential to incite hatred between different communities, thus vitiating the atmosphere of the state during election days.

In his complaint Hooda had stated that public viewing of that CD would be violation of Sub Rule 1 and 2 of the election code of conduct. Acting swiftly on this complaint, the EC referred the CD to the viewing committee which after going through it found it objectionable and rejected it.

Hooda has welcomed this decision and called it a great setback for INLD president Om Parkash Choutala.
