'We have enough talent for PM candidate'

April 28, 2009 13:05 IST

Communist Party of India general secretary D Raja has ruled out any possibility of a post-poll tie-up with either the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Talking to rediff.com, Raja said: "How do you expect smaller secular parties to join hands with these parties. We are not here for friendly fights. We are here to win."

When asked about the possible prime ministerial candidate in case the Left parties were in a position to call the shots post elections, the CPI leader said their main aim as of now is to ensure that they win the elections. The modalities on who would be prime ministerial candidate can be worked out later, he added.

"We have enough talent for a prime ministerial candidate. It could be Prakash Karat, (West Bengal chief minister) Buddhadeb Bhattacharya or may be some person from Orissa or Bihar," he said.
