Mumbai recorded a low voter turn out of 43.52 per cent on Thursday.

Sources in the Election Commission said that Mumbai North East recorded 42.28 per cent polling, Mumbai North West recorded 49.15 per cent, Mumbai North recorded 46.49 per cent, Mumbai North Central recorded 41.82 per cent and Mumbai South Central recorded 41.85 per cent.

Mumbai South recorded a voter turn out of 43.33 per cent.

In the suburbs of Kalyan, 41.2 per cent polling was recorded while 44.7 polling was recorded in Thane.

Bhiwandi, another Mumbai suburb, recorded a dismal 38.48 per cent turn out.

The low voter turnout in Mumbai came as a surprise to many as the polling percentage had been expected to be high in the wake of the recent terror attacks in the metropolis.

Maharashtra overall recorded 45 per cent polling.
