Reacting strongly to the alleged derogatory remarks by Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Congress on Friday said it was "perversity of the highest order".
"The remarks of Uddhav is perversity of the highest order...The PM has taken the prestige and honour of the country to a pinnacle," All India Congress Committe media department chief M Veerappa Moily told media-persons in New Delhi.
Moily said the Bharatiya Janata Party is resorting to such remarks out of frustration as it knew that they are on the losing ground. BJP candidate Varun Gandhi's remarks too was a manifestation of the "communal agenda of the BJP" and as no denial has come from the top leadership of the saffron party, there is a tacit approval for this kind of divisive agenda, he said.
Condemning the remarks made by Thackeray, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh said, "we condemn the abusive language used by the Shiv Sena-BJP in Maharashtra".
Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray and BJP president Rajnath Singh had addressed a rally to jointly launch the saffron alliance's campaign for Lok Sabha polls in Maharashtra. In the speech, Uddhav had referred to a group of people at a rally he addressed in Pune in January calling the PM with a derogatory name.
