Assam: EC team takes stock of poll process

Election Commissioner, Navin Chawla along with two deputy election commissioners are on a three-day visit to Assam , Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh  from Monday to take stock of the election process in both the states.

The Election Commission will be meeting representatives of all political parties at the Assam Administrative Staff College following their arrival in Guwahati. 

Chawla is scheduled to have meeting with divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and sub-divisional officers in Assam along with the state's chief electoral officer Hemanta Narzary.

After the meetings in Guwahati, the EC will go to Meghalaya to carry out a similar exercise.He will review the poll related security arrangement  in Assam with the state's chief secretary, home commissioner and secretary, director general of police.

Chawla will visit Arunachal Pradesh on March 25 to take a first hand view of the election process in the hill state.

Election are to be held to 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, two in Meghalaya and two in Arunachal Pradesh. There are total 24 Lok Sabha constituencies in all the Northeastern States.

The Commission has already decided to deploy micro observers at polling booths level in the Northeast along with the rest of the country to facilitate free and fair polls.
