Miffed with TDP, NTR Junior suspends campaign

March 26, 2009 16:44 IST

Popular Telugu star NTR Junior, who attracted huge crowds in coastal Andhra Pradesh while campaigning for the Telugu Desam Party, has suspended his campaign abruptly and is on his way back to Hyderabad.

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu claimed that he had asked the young actor to take a break and rest for a few days before resuming his campaign, but sources said that Junior NTR was unhappy with the treatment meted out to him.

"NTR Junior was unhappy about film producer Vamsi Mohan being denied a TDP ticket from Gudivada constituency in Krishna district, despite his recommendation," a source close to the actor said.

Miffed with the TDP's decision, NTR Junior, who is the grandson of TDP founder N T Rama Rao, halted his 'Chaitanya Ratham' midway. Naidu had to step in and personally assure the actor that a decision about Gudivada constituency will be taken only after discussing the matter with him.

Instead of nominating Vamsi Mohan from Gudivada, Naidu apparently asked him to contest from Vijaywada constituency, where the TDP has little chance of winning.

Junior NTR's two week long tour -- from Srikakulam district to West Godavari -- has been highly successful as he managed to draw thousands of people to his rallies.

The postponement of his tour and his return to Hyderabad has left party workers and fans alike disappointed. When he was on his way back to Hyderabad, some frenzied TDP members and fans even forced the actor's convoy to halt by lying down on the road. NTR Junior assured them that he will come back to campaign for the TDP after some time.

Junior NTR is likely to resume his campaigning in Telangana region.
