The 35-year-old DM who hails from Kerala has caught the people's attention with her no-nonsense approach in the implementation of the model code of conduct and initiating action against illegal arms dealers in the district.
"The District Magistrate has been going about stating that she would recommend a re-poll in all the polling booths recording 70 per cent or more polling in Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency in the coming elections," Yadav alleged in Lucknow and asked how a DM can declare polling as invalid if 90 per cent voters exercise their franchise.
The Indian Administrative Service officer is reported to have complained that the SP chief had threatened and insulted her for ordering cancellation of several arms licenses in the district. Yadav has denied the charges, though.
Taking note of Mulayam's controversial remarks against the DM at a meeting in Mainpuri, Dileep, who is also the electoral officer, has forwarded a report along with the CD containing the footage to the Election Commission.
An angry Yadav had also warned that he would register a complaint with the EC against the DM whom he accused of losing her sense of proportion and not being able to differentiate between a criminal and a common man.
An angry Yadav had also suggested that she should get her "head checked" and asked her to mend ways within a week. The SP leader, who had been contesting assembly and Lok Sabha elections from the region in and around Mainpuri, cited records to argue that the area always registered a huge voter turnout.
"The officials of the district before making such a comment on the polling percentage in Mainpuri should look at the history of my victory margins in the previous assembly and Lok Sabha elections from Gunnaur (assembly seat) and Sambhal and Mainpuri (Lok Sabha seats)," he said.
The SP chief claimed he had not made any derogatory comments against the woman poll officer. "I was speaking to my workers appealing to them not to be lax and ensure maximum turnout like earlier times on the polling day in Mainpuri," he said.
Yadav also said that in Gunnaur, he had won by a record margin of 1.84 lakh votes when 90 per cent voters exercised their franchise, while in Sambhal parliamentary seat in 2004, some areas recorded 99 per cent turnout and the overall voting percentage was 92 per cent.
